Once again, we are walking from Kingston (Ontario) to Gatineau (Quebec) from October 6 to 9.
Suicide remains the second leading cause of death among youth. You can contribute by raising awareness of suicide prevention among youth around you. Significant steps can be made by learning to understand the problem of suicide, talking often about the subject, listening to those who need it, and reaching out to youth who need help… Marche en Avant is counting on you to raise awareness of suicide prevention among your children, friends and colleagues.
This walk is in support of the Lani Foundation, an organization that works with youth between the ages of 12 and 25 years by promoting life projects with a view to preventing suicide. Some of the projects supported by the Lani Foundation last year gave the opportunity to youth with mental illness to train and participate in the 5K Canada army run, allowing them to complete the race successfully. This experience improves their self-esteem. Last year, the Lani Foundation gave also underprivileged youth the opportunity to grow and reach wellness through an organized trip to Peru, where they carried out community projects and cultural exchanges. For more information on the Lani Foundation, please visit their website: http://www.fondationlani.ca/.
Like last year, the walk will begin at Frontenac Community Mental Health in Kingston and ended at the home of the Lani Foundation. A journey of about almost 200 kilometres.
The Kingston-Gatineau walking journey will span over the course of four days. If you would like to join raising awareness for this wonderful cause, you can walk with us too.
